Rocha
Mozambique Fashion Week, Executive Director

Vasco Rocha is the Founder and CEO of DDB Mozambique and the Founder of Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW), which he has led for more than 20 years. Born in Portugal and based in Mozambique since 1990, he has spent more than three decades building and strengthening the country’s creative industry from Maputo, placing inclusion, youth entrepreneurship, gender equality, and sustainability at the heart of his professional practice. Under his leadership, DDB Mozambique has become one of the most awarded agencies in the Mozambican market, earning recognition from Cannes Lions, The One Show, the Loeries, AfriCannes, and the African Cristal Awards, and ranking 2nd worldwide in ACT Responsible’s Good Report for its work on social causes. He has led national programmes for Vodacom, mCel, Vale, Absa, Standard Bank, Millennium BIM, LAM, and CFM, and coordinated impact-driven initiatives with the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF) through “Africa Rising”, World Food Programme (WFP), USAID, and IUCN. These have included Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) campaigns addressing breast cancer, domestic violence, child marriage, and the inclusion of people with albinism and LGBT+ communities. Under his direction, Mozambique Fashion Week has evolved into a platform for the creative economy and social mobility, providing training and opportunities for designers, models, seamstresses, and young entrepreneurs. It has become a continental reference for the use of fashion as a tool for development, ESG, entrepreneurship, and cultural diplomacy. Vasco holds a degree in Computing and Applied Mathematics, a postgraduate qualification in Marketing from IPAM, and certifications in DDB’s Springboard methodology and TBWA’s Disruption® methodology. For the past 25 years, he has defined himself as an “enemy of the ordinary” — and there is still no cure in sight.
